HIGHLIGHTED NEWS
The UK officially became a member of the CPTPP on December 15, as announced by Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade. This marks a significant opportunity for Vietnam to access the UK’s import market, valued at £900 billion. The UK pledged to remove 94.4% of tariffs on Vietnamese goods immediately after the agreement took effect, a higher level of commitment than for other CPTPP members. Key Vietnamese exports, such as rice, seafood, and tapioca starch, will benefit from better tariff preferences compared to the UKVFTA. Notably, Vietnam’s rice export quota will rise from 3,300 tons/year to 17,500 tons/year by 2030, with a 0% tax rate—nearly double the quota granted to other CPTPP members. While most Vietnamese seafood exports to the UK already enjoy a 0% tariff, some processed shrimp products remain subject to a 7% tax. Additionally, the UK recognizes Vietnam as a market-based economy, reducing risks of discrimination in anti-dumping investigations.
TRADING STRATEGY
The stock market rebounded to 1,266 points, supported by improved liquidity. Cash flow continued to focus on leading stocks in the real estate, finance, and F&B sectors. However, the key contributors to positive movement came from individual stocks in the basic materials and oil and gas sectors. The VN-Index is expected to fluctuate in the range of 1,265-1,270 points today.
The market remains in a consolidation phase within its recovery trend. The supply-demand balance has started to improve, although overall investor sentiment remains cautious. From now through early 2025, the market will likely see frequent updates on macroeconomic policies, corporate strategies, and performance results from listed companies. Sector differentiation is expected to become more pronounced. The VN-Index is likely to enter a phase of alternating gains and losses, with stronger opportunities emerging in fundamentally solid stocks with growth prospects for the first half of 2025. Investors are advised to hold and accumulate core fundamental stocks in strategic portfolios while seeking short-term trading opportunities in stocks benefiting from market liquidity support.
