HIGHLIGHTED NEWS
At the Digital Trust in Finance 2026 Forum on May 12th, the Ministry of Finance announced that it is currently accelerating digital transformation in the finance and securities sector and researching the application of blockchain technology, big data, and AI in market monitoring. Notably, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi stated that the cryptocurrency market in Vietnam could begin operating as early as Q3/2026, thereby creating a legal framework and promoting the development of the domestic digital asset market.
According to Petrovietnam, in the first four months of 2026, the group's crude oil production increased by 14.3% compared to the same period last year. In Q1/2026 alone, total production reached 2.63 million tons, an increase of 10.4%, with domestic production increasing by approximately 12%. Notably, this result was achieved as many key domestic mines are entering a phase of natural decline, forcing the corporation to accelerate the exploitation of new mines, optimize technology, and conduct additional drilling.
TRADING STRATEGY
The stock market recovered to around the 1,900-point mark, with liquidity falling sharply below the weekly average. Selling pressure appeared early in many stocks in the financial, industrial services, F&B, construction, and materials sectors, but gradually weakened towards the end of the afternoon, helping the index narrow its decline and regain positive territory as supporting capital flows tended to shift towards large-cap stocks in the real estate, oil and gas, chemical, and retail sectors. The VN-Index is temporarily maintaining relatively stable support at the 1,860-1,880 point level. However, overall, sentiment has not really improved much, and the general flow of money remains cautious even though the prices of many fundamental stocks have fallen to relatively low levels compared to the asset quality of the businesses or the growth prospects for 2026. Therefore, factors such as reduced selling pressure and improved demand, leading to a spread across highly publicized sectors, will still play a crucial role in assessing the stability and sustainability of the market trend in the next phase. The VN-Index today is likely to fluctuate around the 1,890-1,915 point range.
Investors should closely monitor each stock in their portfolio, especially at resistance levels, to control their holdings at a reasonable level and avoid being swept along by the ups and downs of the overall index.
